Dear FriendWelcome to our April 2026 newsletter. Health ScaresAs the mother of a university student in the UK, I closely followed the recent meningitis B outbreak where two students tragically lost their lives. My feelings on the situation were mixed – confused, because a large part of me wondered, like many of us, if it was part of a planned event, another way to push the vaccine narrative, a lab leak, or simply the media hyping of an extremely sad situation. I did feel a moment of panic too, I will admit. It is hard not to when a situation could involve your child, but I quickly rationalised the miniscule risk of such a rare infection. What concerned me more, were the students portrayed on social media locking themselves in their rooms, immediately donning masks and lining up for prophylactic antibiotics and vaccinations – a behaviour that has become ingrained since the pandemic era. That frightened me. Health anxiety is still high and easily triggered by the media any time they wish. Of course, it is horrendous that two students died, and of course, their friends and fellow students are going to be justifiably scared, but beyond this, there is a distinct feeling that any time something like this happens, it has the potential to trigger ‘government measures’ that many of us will ignore, but none-the-less, affect us all deeply. I guess this is a kind of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) that many of us are carrying – not of a war, but of the knowledge that at any point, an over-reaching government can lock down, lock us out and change the way we live our day-to-day lives. Personally, I believe this is why it is still so important that we have friends, communities and organisations that understand how we feel and can support each other in these situations. The Control Group, and each of us individually are here, if you need us. Our Telegram chats are active communities for like-minded people and you can reach out to us by email any time at support@controlgroup.coop. We are a community as much as a study. A Health Card is a great way to keep important medical information to hand. You can add your health conditions, medications, supplements etc. to the card’s QR page, which makes it really useful when visiting health and wellness practitioners outside the medical system.
